Tuition Announcement for 2018-2019; Tuition Lock Continues

December 12, 2017
Dear CSS Families,
The end of the first semester and the Holiday season are natural times of celebration and reflection. Sometimes, success is a well-earned grade on a test or an analytical essay. Other times, achievement means developing a growth mindset to persevere through a rigorous academic term with incremental gains in important skills. Just as students and parents measure the successes of the semester so does our Administration and Board of Trustees. We are proud of our disciplined and collective work this fall toward short-term and long-term goals and it is already time to plan for next year and the future. Last week, we published major dates for the 2018-2019 school year and submitted our 108-page self-study accreditation report to the Association of Colorado Independent Schools in preparation for accreditation team’s visit in February. This process will secure the school’s accreditation status for the next 10 years. Below are several important announcements for the 2018-2019 school year.
We are proud to announce that The Colorado Springs School Board of Trustees has voted to continue the Tuition Lock program for a second year. We will also continue the much simplified automatic re-enrollment process in which payment of your deposit between February 1-15 will automatically complete the re-enrollment process ensuring that:
  • Families who re-enrolled during the first year of the tuition lock program will continue to benefit from the second year of locked tuition.
  • CSS families in their first year at CSS will have their current tuition rates locked with the 2017-2018 prices.

The Tuition Lock initiative allows all current families to plan for the future, rewards our current families for their commitment to a CSS education, and is part of our strategic plan to bolster enrollment and retain mission-minded students and families. Growing our student body benefits the overall health of the school and our students in many ways including increased academic, athletic, and social opportunities.

2017-2018 Tuition
2018-2019 Tuition Children’s School: First-year families who re-enroll by February 15th in Children’s School will lock in the current (2017-2018) tuition rate for the duration of their students’ attendance in grades K-5th. For a single student entering Kindergarten, this program could save a family as much as $7,632* per student. Tuition Lock does not apply to PreKindergarten.

Middle School: First-year families who re-enroll by February 15th in Middle School will lock in the 2017-2018 current tuition rates for the duration of their students’ attendance in the Middle School and the Upper School. For a single student entering 6th grade, this program could save families as much as $1,814* through 8th grade. If a student remains at CSS for Middle and Upper School, his/her tuition rate locks for all of Upper School at the rate Upper School tuition was when the student entered Middle School. For a single student, under this plan, the seven years of Middle and Upper School could save a family as much as $14,395* per student.

Upper School: First-year families who re-enroll by February 15th in Upper School will lock in the 2017-2018 current tuition rates for the duration of their students’ attendance in Upper School (9th-12th grade). For a single student, entering in 9th grade, the four years of Upper School could save a family as much as $6,897* per student.
*Note: The accumulated savings are estimated based on attendance for all grades in the division, paying full current tuition and compared to increases based on past history at CSS and tuition gradients common among peer schools. For purposes of this example, a 3% tuition increase is used for the formula.
This program represents a tangible benefit for all current families and alleviates the anxiety associated with rising tuition. This program also rewards current families for investing in their children’s future. Thank you for being with us today and going forward.

Warmly,

Aaron Schubach
Head of School
