Upper School Science Teacher
The Colorado Springs School (CSS) prides itself on high student engagement and meaningful interactions that prepare students for a dynamic and ever-changing world. We are equally committed to an intensive college and career counseling program that supports students through a highly personalized process of post-secondary planning, placement, and success beyond graduation. Our teachers bring learning to life through experiential education, project-based learning, real-world field experiences, and student-centered classroom practices. In addition to teaching, faculty members serve as advisors, club sponsors, and active contributors to our vibrant school community.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Teach Biology and/or Chemistry at the introductory and AP level Science Courses
- Teach one or more elective subjects such as Physics, Psychology, Anatomy & Physiology, and/or Environmental Science
- Teach five sections each semester, comprising an average of three preparations
- Serve as an Advisor for a group of up to 10 9-12th grade students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal development, and acting as a primary liaison with families
- Participate in off-campus experiences, including occasional overnight stays in our Experienced-Centered Seminars
- Co-lead an intensive three-week Experience-Centered Seminar in March
- Design and implement engaging, differentiated, and globally informed curriculum using project-based learning, hands-on investigation, and iterative learning practices
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture that supports both academic growth and student well-being
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain accurate records of student progress, including grades, comments, and advisor communications
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress and concerns
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to department and school-wide initiatives
- Attend all required faculty, department, and school meetings
- Supervise students and uphold school policies
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated content knowledge and passion for science education
- Experience teaching or working with young people
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to drive a 15-passenger vehicle
- Ability to supervise students during multi-day and overnight trips
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant field
- Experience teaching advanced or AP-level courses
- Experience teaching students in grades 9–12
- Independent school experience

General Maintenance Technician
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees by maintaining school buildings and grounds.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:
- a. electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems (working in conjunction with licensed contractors).
- b. exterior and interior of buildings.
- c. school grounds.
- Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
- Act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
- Observe campus policies at all times.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the
- Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor or Administrative Staff.
- Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of campus facilities.
- Ensure that all activities conform to CSS/campus guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in building and grounds operations.
- Familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory.
- Ability to read chemical labels.
- Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Ability to initiate and complete work orders.
- Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the campus insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Must be able to work in high places.
Salary:
This position is a full-time position with a pay rate of $17 to $20 per hour based upon skills and experience.
