We are delighted to announce that Judy Von Ahlefeldt, affectionately known as "Mrs. Von," has been selected as the 2025 Founders’ Day honoree! Judy was a dedicated CSS science teacher from 1971 to 1979, and she has since made significant contributions to our community, including the publication of the "Black Forest News" weekly newsletter and her insightful book, Thunder, Sun and Snow: A History of Colorado's Black Forest. Her unwavering passion for education, conservation, and the art of storytelling, particularly in the wake of personal loss during the Black Forest fire, serves as a beacon of inspiration for everyone fortunate enough to know her.
We will celebrate Judy's accomplishments and legacy at the Founders' Day Celebration on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 8 a.m. in the Louisa Performing Arts Center (LPAC). Additionally, Judy will join us for the Alumni Reception on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Trianon, where we can all come together to honor her incredible impact on our community.
2024 Alumni Weekend (September 2024)
We honored Dottie Lirette, a longtime former art faculty member of CSS, at the Founders' Day Celebration on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at 8 a.m. in the Louisa Performing Arts Center (LPAC).
Dottie, fondly known as "the Queen of the Carriage House," a retrospective of her artwork through the years in the lobby of LPAC presented during Alumni Reunion Weekend.
30th Anniversary Alumni Iron Pour (April 2024)
To celebrate the 30th year of Iron Pour at CSS, we held a special Alumni Iron Pour on April 6, 2024. All alumni of the Iron Pour Experience-Centered Seminar (ECS) were invited to join Art Department Chair Hans Wolfe for this hands-on immersion into the world of making and pouring molten metal to create art.
CSS is the only high school in the country to offer this incredible experience. Nine iron pours have been conducted at CSS since 1994. It's now offered every three years, with the last one in 2024. Thank you to all who participated or helped with this incredible event!
The community came together on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in the Trianon for the 60th Anniversary Celebration of The Colorado Springs School. Guests enjoyed hor d'oeuvres, cocktails, cake, and conversation with some of Colorado Springs' greatest champions.
Approximately 40 current and past faculty and staff, as well as alumni representing the class years 1977 through 2021, came together for Alumni Reunion Weekend from August 5 to August 7, 2022. Activities included a Mid-Summer Movie Night complete with back-to-back showings, dinner, and ice cream on the Quad, a family-friendly game of volleyball in the Louise Honnen Tutt Field House, guided campus tours, and a Blast from the Past Reception in the Trianon.
Alumni are welcome to attend a variety of school-sponsored events throughout the year, including athletics, concerts, and performances, speaking engagements, continuation ceremonies, and Commencement.
