Upper School Math Teacher

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Colorado Springs School (CSS) is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set to teach Algebra 2 Trig, AP Calculus AB and BC. Experience teaching Algebra and Geometry is a plus. A successful candidate must teach five science sections, serve as an Upper School Advisor, and participate in Experience-Centered Seminars which can include multiple overnights with students. This position reports directly to the Director of Upper School and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.

The position’s preferred qualifications:

  • MA/MS or equivalent in a related field

  • Experience teaching Advanced courses

  • Experience teaching courses from 9th through 12th grades

  • Independent school experience

  • Demonstrated and successful history with innovation in the teaching of math, technology integration, curriculum design, and experiential-based learning

  • Experience in teaching English Language Learners (ELL), particularly international students

  • Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology

The Upper School Math Teacher will:

  • Teach algebra, geometry, algebra 2 Trig from an introductory level to an advanced level

  • Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students

  • Serve as an instructor in our signature experiential learning opportunities both on campus and away throughout the year, including our experience-centered seminars which take place over 3 weeks in March, and sometimes require travel

  • Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning

  • Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required

  • Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth

  • Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner

  • Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment

  • Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records

  • Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules

  • Facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth

  • Communicate with students and families on a regular basis to share concerns and progress

  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth on an annual basis

  • Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly

  • Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways

  • Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook

  • Perform various student supervisory duties

SALARY RANGE: $47,000 - $55,000 annually based on skills and experience.
