Roles and Responsibilities:
CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in math. A successful candidate must teach up to six math sections, serve as a middle school advisor, and participate in all planning/execution of Experiential Education Seminars. This position reports directly to the Director of Lower and Middle School and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's or advanced degree (preferred) in the field of math
Experience teaching courses from 5th through 10th grades (5th grade standards through Geometry)
Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
Experience in teaching English Language Learners (ELL), particularly international students
The Middle School Math Teacher will:
Teach up to six sections of middle and upper school math, which could include the following classes: 5th Grade Math (Foundations); Intermediate Math; Pre-Algebra; Algebra; and Functions, Statistics, and Geometry
Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students
Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning.
Serve as a developer and instructor in our signature experiential learning opportunities both on campus and away throughout the year, which sometimes require travel
Potentially develop and teach a Middle School Passion Class on varied topics of interest
Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
Complete grades/comments, regular parent communication, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner
Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records
Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
Perform various student supervisory duties
