Dr. Ryan Kelly is an education leader with over 25 years of experience in teaching and leading independent and international schools. He holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts degree in Science Education from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Oregon. He is also a National Board Certified Teacher of Chemistry and a recipient of the City of Boise Rotary Award for Distinguished Educators.

As the Head of School at The Colorado Springs School, Dr. Kelly is committed to delivering a distinctive educational approach that balances tradition and innovation and puts students at the center of every experience.

He draws on his extensive background in STEM and innovation to foster a dynamic curriculum, authentic assessments, and real-world seminars that prepare students for college and beyond. He also collaborates with a diverse and talented faculty and staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that nurtures social, emotional, and leadership skills.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Despite my experience with rock-climbing, skydiving, and similar thrill-seeking activities, I’m not particularly fond of heights.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

Time travel so I could win the lottery and establish a massive endowment for CSS.

What is one thing you've learned from students?

Mutual respect is the key to having a positive relationship.

What did you want to be growing up?

A Navy SEAL or a firefighter.

What draws you to working with students?

I had several teachers who saw the best in me, and I wanted to provide that same support to the students in my classroom or school that I lead.

What is one thing you enjoy about CSS?
The community because my family and I felt part of it from our first day on campus.

What is your favorite spot in the world?

Kauaʻi, Hawaii, because it is absolutely beautiful. I have been several times and would love to live there someday.
