Profile

Johnson, Nathan

Director of Athletics

B.A., Christian Education, Concordia University

Nathan Johnson is an accomplished educator and coach with a deep commitment to shaping the lives of student-athletes. Since 2008, he has been a driving force in K-12 education, fostering excellence both in the classroom and on the field.

His coaching journey began in 2001, sparking a passion for guiding young athletes to reach their full potential. Over the years, he has coached Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, and Golf—each season enriching his understanding of student-athlete development. Influenced by exceptional mentors, Nathan has embraced a philosophy that transcends wins and losses, focusing instead on providing meaningful and lasting coaching experiences.

At the heart of his approach is the belief that athletics are co-curricular—an extension of the classroom. He sees sports as opportunities to instill teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, lessons that endure long after games are over. This perspective emphasizes the holistic growth of student-athletes and aligns with his broader educational philosophy.

Nathan’s own athletic journey was shaped by a variety of sports, but soccer became his greatest passion. His collegiate career on the soccer field not only honed his skills but also taught him enduring values of respect, empathy, and integrity—qualities instilled by his coaches that shaped his character on and off the field. Recognizing the profound influence of those experiences, Nathan is committed to paying those lessons forward.

At The Colorado Springs School, he embraces the opportunity to inspire students as his coaches once inspired him, empowering them to navigate challenges with resilience and character. A third-generation Colorado native, Nathan shares his love of the community with his wife, Sandy, and their children, who also attend CSS. Outside of school, he enjoys woodworking, crafting furniture and handmade treasures in his woodshop.
