A Letter From Our Incoming Head of School

March 06, 2020
Greetings The Colorado Springs School community,
I am very excited to join The Colorado Springs School. My heart’s passion is teaching, learning, and systemic goal achievement on behalf of students and there is no other place that I would like to execute those passions than with the CSS community. During my visits to CSS, I was invigorated by the faculty and community of leaders that I met. It is also thrilling to call CSS my new home. I felt the warmth and dedication of the faculty, leaders, and board almost instantly. I could identify with the rich tradition of experiential learning and the commitment to see CSS reach new heights.
As I visited with the students of CSS, I heard from intuitive, savvy, bright, and compassionate individuals who comprised a glow of hope with each exchange. For this, I am grateful to the Colorado Springs community and I look forward to partnering with you to ensure continued hope and enhanced skill-building. My motivation for leadership can be found in the smiles of the students. The active conversations that I held with the board search committee, advisory committee, senior leadership, teacher leadership, parents, and students brought a feeling of strong affiliation and affinity.
The Colorado Springs School alumni and current student body share a love for the school community, its mission, and what it has done to enhance and enrich their individual lives. I welcome the opportunity to unify and celebrate all that The Colorado Springs School has done and look ahead to ensure a vibrant future. I witnessed a faculty of strong dedicated individuals who exemplify and ensure academic professionalism and rigor for their students. It is with their commitment that each student is and will be inspired to reach new heights. As we strengthen and continue our strong base of seminar-style programs, community service, and Capstone projects, the board and I remain committed to seeing these fundamental parts of the school’s tapestry remain as hallmarks.
I cannot emphasize enough how excited I am to join The Colorado Springs School community. I look forward to experiencing and enjoying the people, places, food, attractions, and yes, the Colorado Springs weather. One of my favorite quotes is by Peter Block and it reads “How do you change the world? One room at a time. Which room? The one you’re in.” I look forward to sharing time and space with you and learning more about all that comprises Colorado Springs and its learning community. Together we will live out the school’s mission, “Through superior academics and mentoring, preparing students to think independently and meet the challenges of a dynamic world with leadership, ingenuity, problem-solving, and personal integrity.”
