Veterans' Day Speaker to Pilot Apache Helicopter to Campus

To celebrate Veterans’ Day, The Colorado Springs School (CSS) will host a special assembly for the elementary school on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 21 Broadmoor Avenue. The featured speaker, a school parent and Apache pilot, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jason Yarros, will arrive at campus piloting an Apache helicopter. The helicopter is scheduled to land on Boddington Field, the school’s sports field, at 8:00 a.m. Students will greet the helicopter and Yarros on the field.

Yarros has served in the United States Army for 20 years and is stationed at Fort Carson. He was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in Iraq during a deployment. On the homefront, Yarros is a loving parent of six children along with his wife, Rebecca. The family currently has four boys enrolled at The Colorado Springs School.

Following the landing of the helicopter, Kindergarten - 5th-grade students will gather in the Louisa Performing Arts Center for the formal assembly at 8:30 a.m. The assembly will include patriotic songs, tributes to Veterans, and Mr. Yarros sharing his story of service. Proudly, twenty-two percent of The Colorado Springs School’s parent body is either active duty military or retired from military service.

To continue the Veterans’ Day honors, on Monday, November 13, 2017, school parent Lt. Col. Jeremy Noel, USAF, will address middle and high school students in a 9:40 a.m. assembly.
