Middle School Seminars
Middle School Seminars are the cornerstone of experiential learning beyond the classroom at The Colorado Springs School. Three times each year, students step off campus for immersive, hands-on experiences that bring academic concepts to life in real-world settings. Students choose from a range of Seminar topics aligned with their interests and goals, including Outdoor Education, the Arts, Social and Current Issues, STEM, and Life Skills. Through these experiences, learners practice collaboration, problem-solving, and reflection—core habits of CSS’s experiential education.
8th-Grade Walkabout
In the spring of their 8th-grade year, students embark on Walkabout, a time-honored CSS tradition and the culminating Middle School experiential experience. This seven- to ten-day expedition takes students to the southern desert of Utah, where they raft, hike, and live together in a challenging, transformative environment. Walkabout supports the transition from Middle to Upper School by fostering independence, resilience, and class unity—memories that alumni often recall for decades.
