Summer Camps 2019

The Colorado Springs School has been providing summer camp experiences for more than 30 years. All programs are open to the public, and we encourage CSS families to take advantage of these experiential education programs. Camps include a wide variety of STEM activities and athletics.

CSS Basketball Camp

The Colorado Springs School is proud to offer the CSS All-Star Basketball Camps again this summer in the Honnen Tutt Field House. Coach Vicki Vaughan leads the Kodiak basketball program where she has been coaching for 16 years and teaching PE for 10 years. An Indiana Basketball Hall ofFame player, Coach Vaughan has been facilitating camps for over 25 years and takes pride in teaching basketball in a fun, safe, and healthy environment.

CSS Kodiak High-Altitude Training Camp

For the second year, CSS is offering the High-Altitude Training Camp in Victor, CO, located one hour from Colorado Springs at 9,697 feet above sea level. This specialty camp is designed to help Upper School athletes get a jump-start on the Fall sports season. Emphasis will be placed on elevation training for endurance along with skills sessions per sport and discussions relevant to peak performance. CSS coaches will staff the camp and work with their athletes while staying overnight at the Historic Victor High School building, which is the home of the Rocky Mountain Soccer Camps.

CSS Volleyball Camp

CSS Middle School Head Volleyball Coach, Blisse Beardsley, and previous Head Coach, Misti Johnston, have been coaching volleyball for a combined total of 25 years. They enjoy emphasizing the fundamentals of volleyball while building love for the sport. They will leave a lasting impact on your child who will find inspiration from this camp along with sharper skills and a better understanding of the game.

Challenger Sports Soccer Camps

Challenger Sports, the leading soccer camp company in North America, is combining the most popular elements of their two existing industry-leading camp programs, British Soccer and TetraBrazil, integrating them into a collection of the most effective soccer practices used by youth teams around the world.

The new Challenger International Soccer Camp reflects the truly global nature of the sport today and provides young players with a wide variety of coaching styles, practices, and influences that will help them develop a well-rounded skill set. We have taken the best coaching methodologies and practices from England, Brazil, Spain, USA and France and have woven them together in a multi-faceted on and off-field coaching experience.

USA Chess Camp

USA Chess is the largest and premier chess camp organizer for children in the United States. Their staff is comprised of the finest children’s chess instructors in North America.  Registration options include mornings, afternoon and all-day sessions. Campers experience chess instruction and play in a fun filled environment designed to improve their skills whether they are interested in casual or competitive chess. Tuition includes trophy, chess set and much more.

Minecraft is hugely popular because it’s collaborative, open-ended, and moddable. Our program preserves those qualities and adds a large dose of Fun! The week begins with learning the game, controls, recipes, and a bit about hosting and networking. Next, campers are connected to different world hosted on our secure server and experiment with character skins, mods and custom maps. By day three, the kids are building in the Active Learning World that grows over time. Whether adding a room, building a moat, or even creating a chessboard, the possibilities are nearly limitless.

Chess & Game Design

Combine a half day in our USA Chess program and a half day of a Game Design Camp. Whether your child is a casual chess player or tournament participant, USA Chess Camp will improve every child’s game. Instructors use a range of teaching tools including demo boards, computer tutorials, worksheets, stories and historic games to keep class time exciting. Each half-day consists of two hour-long chess lessons tailored to the ability of the children and one hour of practice to play against other students and instructors. USA Chess camps are a perfect way to give children a fun week of learning chess while challenging their minds! All campers receive a chess set, notation book, t-shirt and trophy.

Fizz Bang Boom Chemistry Lab

Our Junior Boom Institute of Higher Reactions will make your Summer a Blast! Can you solve the Mystery of the Growing Glove using the scientific method? The Gator in the Bottle visits the camp through-out the whole week to help build science skills. Go Hunting for Science - Catch a Rainbow in a Test Tube. Trap the Foaming Monster. Ocean Blue – Adventures Under the Sea

Come Take a Dive into the world of Marine Biology and Oceanography. Dissect a real shark, design our own fish and bring to life genuine Triassic Triops. Examine Sea Shells from the Sea Shore and make a cool design to take home. We’ll continue the fun and examine the anatomy of a fish and make fish print t-shirts. We’ll finish the week and come face-to-face with some unique sea creatures such as squid. Jump right in for an Adventure Under the Sea.

Robo Quest

Use your imagination and the power of science to build different mini bots; a Bot that draws and a Sumo Bot that’s up to our Battle Area. All aboard as we make a Science Matters Electromagnetic Train. (You won’t believe how cool this train is!) Finally, design your own Cubelet robot to do your bidding. Robot will do different things depending on how you construct it. Circuits, buzzing lights, and motors galore in this Super Fun Camp! NOTE: This camp will include an introduction to soldering and campers will be using soldering irons.

Xtreme STEM Olympiad

Go For the Gold! Join us as we vault our way through our STEM Olympiad! Create your “athlete” and then put them through their paces. Build mechanical arms, catapults, and hover crafts that throw them, launch them, spin them, and more. You’ll love the rough and tumble Xtreme STEM Olympiad “Athlete”.
