Job summary:
The position is for grades K-12 as the sole school counselor at our school of around 300 students. The position is full-time.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with running Social/Emotional groups or SEL curriculum in a classroom setting.
Experience with how to do a suicide assessment in a school setting and follow through with parent communication, crisis resources, and re-entry meetings
Experience working as a school counselor or mental health professional in a school setting (as school counseling is quite different than clinical counseling in an outside setting)
Experience working with all grade levels K-12, elementary, middle, and high school
School Counselor License and/or LPC, or LPCC or LCSW
Be a team player that will have a busy day popping around to different buildings on campus while maintaining a level of calm
Required knowledge, skill, and abilities:
A Master’s degree in Counseling, School Counseling, Social Work, or related field
Demonstrated ability to connect with students and use a variety of counseling techniques specific to school counseling including Solution-focused Brief Therapy (meetings will last 5 to 20 minutes, no longer).
Ability to manage a classroom while teaching a lesson with a group of up to 20 students
Must pass a background check
School Counselor will:
Serve as the only mental health professional on the CSS campus for grades K-12
Respond to mental health crisis situations that occur during school hours; this can include handling situations that come up when a student has suicide ideation
Perform “weekly check-ins” with a caseload of students throughout the week
Meet with students at the request of the Lower School and Middle/Upper School Directors who come up as students of concern
Mediate conflicts that arise between students
Attend weekly meetings for staff members as well as other meetings specific to the school counselor
Teach “Advisory” class to grades K-5. This class is a part of the co-curricular rotations each week and focuses on developing social/emotional skills. A curriculum will be provided for you to follow (different for each grade level) and there is also room for some creativity. These classes are on average 45 minutes long.
Teach the 9th Grade Wellness class.
Design SEL Advisory lessons for the middle school and upper school advisors.
Cover recess and supervision duties as assigned to you for all grade levels.
Provide mental health resources to the CSS community
Track student meetings and keep brief notes while maintaining appropriate confidentiality depending upon the situation
Be ready to transition to e-learning at anytime if there is a mandatory COVID response on campus
Salary:
$48,000 - $50,000 based on skills and experience. Excellent benefits, including tuition remission.
