About the Library

Michael Carpenter, Head Librarian

While earning her degree in Classics from University of New Mexico, Michael Carpenter worked in the Fine Arts Library at UNM. After completing her M.A. in Classics at The University of Colorado, she served as Librarian for a middle school in Albuquerque, but she couldn't resist the lure of Colorado and she returned in 2007. She enjoys hikes with her husband and two dogs, reading, language, and art (both looking and creating). She has happily embraced her unique position and is eager to meet the needs of teachers, students and parents at CSS and in the community. Mrs. Carpenter has recently begun teaching several classes at CSS, including Get It Together (a study and organizational skills class for all 6th grade students), as well as Foundations of Language (a one-semester class geared in the study of Greek and Latin roots for 7th and 8th grade students).

Bev Brown, Library Assistant

Bev Brown, assistant librarian at CSS, has her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Southern California. Her undergraduate degree in Education is from the University of Illinois. She has taught elementary education for 30 years with the Department of Defense Overseas Schools on the bases in the Philippines, Germany, Ethiopia, Netherlands, Spain and Japan. She has worked at CSS since the spring of 1999. Of course, her hobbies are reading and traveling.

Library Lessons (For CS Students & Parents)

Welcome back, Children’s School parents and students! Mrs. Carpenter is thrilled to see all your familiar faces, and the new ones too! For the first couple of weeks, students will be learning about library rules, procedures, and etiquette. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade classes meet in the Children's Room, and 3rd through 5th grade classes meet in the Main Room. Parents are welcome any time – but beware: you may be called on for answers! Library lessons will continue to be posted here, along with new information about the library and volunteer opportunities. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Carpenter at mcarpenter@css.org or (719) 475-9747 x.511.
