Monday	Read pp. 338-340 (Sections 23.3-23.5).	We did a latitude/longitude warm-up. We then did the preview activity over apartheid on p. 186 in the Interactive Notebook. We then went over the background information (including the geoterms) on South Africa from the reading. We then watched a short clip from Invictus as a teaser to the reading tonight on Nelson Mandela's rise to the presidency and the end of apartheid. We then finished the class by playing the map game for about 10 minutes.

Monday	Fill out the Middle East map handout.	We disussed two of the three main ways that China is trying to deal with the challenges of having a large and growing population (one child policy and new energy sources).
Tuesday	Read pp. 443-445 in the TCI book (Sections 31.1-31.2) and do p. 257 in the Interactive Notebook (geoterms).	We went over how China is promoting economic growth to deal with their population issues. We then discussed the global implications of this chapter. We went over the answers to the Middle East map handout. We then did the previewed chapter 31 on the impact of population density on Japan using presenter slides 7-16.
Wednesday	Read pp. 446-450 (Sections 31.3-31.6) in the TCI book.	We went over the four geoterms (population distribution, arable land, arithmetic population density, and physiologic population density). We then looked at population density for Australia, the U.S., and Japan and "experienced" it in a simulation. We then did a subway crowding simulation for various cities around the world to get students thinking about how population density impacts how people live.
Thursday	Study the Middle East map.	Students worked in groups to fill in pp. 258-259 in the Interactive Notebook (each group assigned one of the four ways population density affects how people live in Japan). The groups then shared their ideas in front of the class while other groups filled in the notes based on their presentations. We then played the map game.
Friday	Study the Middle East map for a test next Friday, Feb. 3rd.	We did the Global Connections for Ch. 31 and then played the map game, focusing on the Middle East, to prepare for the map test next Friday, Feb. 3rd.

Tuesday	Read pp. 412-413 (sections 28.3 and 28.4) and do Step 1 in the reading notes on both p. 239 and p. 240 in the Interactive Notebook.	We did the preview activity on pp. 236-237 on creating three maps on IT workers around the world in IT. We then read pp. 409-411 in class and discussed the information (sections 28.1-28.2).

Week of 11/28-12/2	Homework	In Class Time
Monday	Read and take notes pp. 180-185 (sections 12.3-12.8) on land use conflict in the Amazon. The notes will be used in a group activity tomorrow where students will need to be familiar with how different groups want to use/preserve the rainforest.	We went over questions regarding the Asia Fair project due next Monday (during 5th period). We then did a preview activity where students worked in groups to decide how to use community land that had been given us in a fictitious scenario. We then looked at Landsat images of the Amazon from 1992 and 2006 to get an idea of the impact of some groups' use of the region.
Tuesday	Read pp. 186-189 (sections 12.9-12.11) and complete p. 104 in the Interactive Notebook on solutions to land use conflict in the Amazon.	We took the reading from last night and worked in groups to discuss the ways in which different groups use the rainforest and whether their impact is justified or not.
Wednesday	Work on Asia Fair.	We continued our group work and answered four questions about the six interest groups' impact on the rainforest.
Thursday	Work on Asia Fair.	We played the map game. We then discussed ideas about how to reduce land use conflict in the Amazon and finished the class looking at global implications of deforestation.
Friday	Work on Asia Fair (due Monday during 5th period). Parents are welcome to attend our fair on Monday from 11:30-12:05.	We went over last minute details concerning Asia Fair and then played the map game.

Tuesday	Students need to gather information and pictures for their travel brochures and e-mail them to their google accounts. They will use these in class tomorrow and on Friday. Students also need to plan out their brochures using the blank template that Ms. Anterra gave them in class today. This planning should be written down. Computer class time on Wednesday and Friday should be spent cutting and pasting pictures, not gathering information. If students come to class prepared, they should be able to finish their brochures in class.	We went to the computer lab, and students learned how to create a tri-fold travel brochure for their Asia Fair project. Students began work on their travel brochures.

Students were introduced to the concept of writing an article for their "college newspaper" as exchange students to Mexico City. They then followed the guidelines on the write-up sheet and got some class time to write.
Wednesday	Study for Latin America Map Test next Monday, November 7th.	We were on a snow delay schedule today. Students went to the computer lab to continue writing their articles on "Spatial Inequality in Mexico City".

We played a fact game to introduce the importance of the Great Lakes ecosystem and set the stage for covering our essential question of "How do we best balance use of our freshwater resources with conservation of them?"
Wednesday	Study for Canada Map Test tomorrow	We discussed the essential question and then read section 4.3 (pp. 68-69) while listening to "The Sad State of Our Once-Great Lakes" from July 1969. We then prepared for the Canada map test tomorrow by playing the map game.

Thursday	Bring props/create visuals for their economic activity skits/act-it-outs tomorrow.	We filled out the econonic activity section (p.16) in their interactive notebooks (Lesson 2-7 in textbook), and then students worked in groups to create a skit/act-it-out over assigned economic activities.
Friday	Read pp. 51-53 (Sections 3-1 and 3-2 in online text) and then define the four terms on p. 53 in your own words on a separate sheet of paper. Also draw a geosymbol to represent each term.	We performed the skits in class and then debriefed the presentations. I also collected the students Interactive Notebooks to grade over the weekend.
