Seventh Grade Pre-Algebra - Mrs. Hannigan

This is the homework page for Mrs. Hannigan's 7th grade math class. I will post the homework for the upcoming week by the end of the Friday of the preceding week. The most recent week is posted at the top, but you can scroll down to see older assignments or to check on the specifics of makeup work (I never delete a week).

Please check daily for updated and specific homework assignments for each night (they can change based on what we accomplished each day in class).

Click here for our class syllabus.

You can find our math resources online at the following link:
Glencoe Prealgebra Text

However, you cannot access the actual book because we have the DVDs instead as part of our text purchase. You have all been given the opportunity to take home a disk and download it or keep it for the entire year. See Mrs. Hannigan if you need to borrow a disk again at any time.

Our MathScore account can be found at www.css.co.mathscore.com

Finish the in-class work if necessary.

View a Khan video about scientific notation. There appears to be no "Practice this concept" button on this video. Try doing a few problems from the book, or do the Self-Check Quiz.
Tuesday 9-5: Scientific Notation Do Grade 9, Lesson 8 (Scientific Notation) and Lesson 62 (Multiplying and Dividing Exponent Expressions) in MathScore for Friday. Remember the 100 rating or 30 minutes rule.

Kodiak Scholars: You got a new assignment today. It is due on Monday. See me if you have any questions.
Wednesday 9-6: Powers of Monomials NEW! Problem Puzzlers: You now know how to write numbers in some pretty sophisticated ways. Come up with three of the hardest expressions to simplify that you can think of (and solve yourself!) using positive and negative exponents, products and quotients, scientific notation, and powers of powers. Provide values for your variables so that people can actually get a numerical answer. Write each of them neatly and clearly on its own index card (3 cards total). On a separate sheet of paper, write your answers to all three. Show your work!

We will share these in class on Friday and over the weekend. See me if you want me to check your answers!
Thursday Service Learning: No Class Complete your Problem Puzzlers on index cards. Remember to make an answer key on a separate sheet of paper (with all your work shown!)

Finish MathScore by 8 AM tomorrow morning.
Friday 9-7: Linear and Non-linear functions Work on the card you got today. Rewrite the problem and author's name (and you own MLA heading) on your paper. Simplify by doing all the operations you can and combining all the terms you can and then evaluating the expression using the values for the variables if provided. Write your answer in the simplest and most conventional form. Due on Monday.

Kodiak Scholars: Your assignment is due on Monday.

New for these lessons: You need to reach a rating of 100 OR work hard for 30 minutes on EACH lesson...whichever comes first. I can see how many problems you try, how often you take a break, and how much time you spend on each lesson in my MathScore teacher reports...so be honest! If, after 30 minutes of working hard, you have not reached 100, you may stop! So, for these two lessons, you have 1 hour total as a maximum for this assignment.

MathScore is due on Monday.
