Get It Together

Middle School Study & Organization Skills

Instructor: Michael Carpenter, Head Librarian & MS Classics

This course is a requirement for all incoming 6th graders at The Colorado Springs School. The transition from 5th grade to 6th grade can be a confusing and frustrating experience. This course is designed to teach students how to handle all the academic challenges that often accompany the middle school years. We will cover organization, from packing a backpack to cleaning a locker; we will discuss not only how to set goals, but how to keep them within sight and accomplish them; we will even cover easy-to-understand ways of taking notes and studying them, preparing for tests and taking them, and also strategies for writing good papers. These simple yet extremely effective organizational habits and study skills will help students achieve higher personal, academic, and extra-curricular success not only now, but also throughout the rest of their lives. This class will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the study hall period for the first term of the fall semester.
