Athletic Wrap-up 2015-2016

Upper School Girls’ Volleyball:

The varsity girls’ put together another incredible season finishing as League Champions, District Tournament Champions, runners-up in Regionals and earning a State Qualifying berth.  This is the 3rd year in a row, the Kodiaks have qualified for the State tournament. They finished the regular season with a 17 and 2 record and with an overall record of 21 wins and 5 losses. Selected First Team All-Conference were Kaela G., Hannah T.,  Diana M. and Laney S. Honorable Mention honors went to Natalie R., and Jaydi  S.  Laney S. was also selected First Team Gazette All-Area and received State recognition.

Middle School Girls’ Volleyball:

The Middle School “A” team finished with a 500 record for both the “A” team and “B” team. The “A” team had a high number of 7th graders this year and they are looking forward to next season in the CCAL league.

Upper School Boys’ Soccer:

While competing again in the toughest 3A league in Colorado, the varsity boys played solid, competitive soccer finishing the year with their best record in several years with an 8 win 7 loss record. Earning First Team All-Conference honors were Louis D., Jake F., and Patrick B.  Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Jack M. and Connor J.  

Middle School Boys’ Soccer:

The Middle School Soccer team finished the season with a 5 win, 5 loss and 1 tie record. The team played its first year in the CCAL league and was one win away from qualifying for the play-offs. The future looks bright for this young team.

Upper School Cross-Country:

The Upper School Cross-Country team, under second year head coach, Jolly Burke, enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in many years. Again the team was able to field a full squad for both boys and girls.  Sarah W., Claire S. and Samantha E.  earned All-Conference honors. Claire S. and Sarah W. qualified for the State Championships.

Middle School Cross-Country:

 The boys’ and girls’ competed in the newly formed CCAL league this year and were very competitive with the girls. The boys were low in numbers this year. There are several 8th grade girls and boys moving up to the Upper School cross-country team.

Upper School Boys’ Tennis:

This young and mostly inexperienced team showed excellent improvement throughout the year. The highlight of the season was the 3rd place finish at #1 Doubles of Victor W. and Michael M. at the Regional tournament.

Middle School Girls’ Basketball:

The Middle School Girls’ basketball team, under returning head coach, Vicki Vaughan, while not having a winning record showed much improvement through-out the year and capped off their season with a second place finish in the end of season Ellicott Tournament. It is a young team and next year looks promising.

Middle School Boys’ Basketball:

The boys’ “A” team, enjoyed its best season in 3 years showing great improvement throughout the year.  They finished 4th in the end of season BFL tournament, losing a one point game for third place. The “B” team boys’ carried a winning record throughout the season and bring a lot of ability to next year’s “A” team.

Upper School Girls’ Basketball:

The varsity girls’ basketball team, playing a very difficult league schedule, finished the season with a 7 and 12 record.  One of the highlights of the season was winning the Kodiak Classic for the second year in a row. Claire S.  was selected First Team All-Conference. And Natalie R. was Honorable-Mention All-Conference. Claire S. also played in the 2A vs. 3A All-Star game.

Upper School Boys’ Basketball:

With very few seniors on the team, this young team improved greatly throughout the season. They were able to qualify for the play-offs this year and will do even better next year with a year more of experience. The highlight of the season was winning the Kodiak Classic for the first time since 2009. Joey C. was selected First Team All-Conference. Chris M. and Danny B. were selected Honorable mention All-Conference.

Middle School Girls’ Soccer:

The Middle School girls’ soccer team enjoyed another winning season with 5 win 4 loss and I tie record.  They finished tied for third in league play. There is a talented group of 8th graders moving up to the Upper School team and a talented group of upcoming players to take the reigns in Middle School.

Middle School Boys’ Lacrosse:

The Middle School lacrosse team enjoyed a very competitive season, winning some close games and losing some close games. There is a very talented group of 7th grade boys who will be excellent leaders for the Middle School team next year.

Upper School Girls’ Soccer:

The varsity girls followed up last season’s record year with a winning record of 7 wins and 4 losses, earning a state qualifying berth for the third year in a row. First Team All-Conference Honors went to Hannah T., Ali G., Claire S.  and Sarah W. Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Kaela G.

Upper School Girls’ Tennis:

This year’s team achieved several regular season wins and also had a couple of very close losses. It is still a young team with lots of potential for next year.  After playing in the toughest Regional in State the last ten years, the team will now be allowed to compete in the new 3A Regional and State competition.

Upper School Boys’ Volleyball:

This was the second year for boys’ volleyball at CSS. The boys made incredible improvement throughout the year and were able to win several matches playing against larger and more experienced schools. The team finished the season with close to winning 50 percent of their matches.

Upper School and Middle School Mountain Biking:

This was the inaugural year of a Mountain Biking Team at CSS. With head coach Will Biederman at the helm, riders looked to improve their technique, skills and endurance. Freshman, Nolan J. competed in all of the State competitions and won the State Championship at the JV level. If he had been allowed to compete at the varsity level, he most likely would have finished in the top five at State. With almost all of the riders returning, many will be ready to ride their first races this coming fall.

Kodiak Scholar Athlete Award is given to the senior athlete with the highest cumulative GPA and has played at least two CSS sports per year since their sophomore year. Claire S.

Upper School Girls’ Volleyball:

The Varsity Girls’ put together another incredible season finishing as League Champions, District Tournament Champions, Regional Tournament Champions,  and earning a berth in the State Championships where they finished tied for 5th. They finished the regular season with a 16 and 3 record and with an overall record of 22 wins and 4 losses. Selected First Team All-Conference were Maddee M., Kristin M., Diana M. and Laney S. Honorable Mention honors went to Hannah T. and Jaydi  S.  Maddee M. was also selected First Team Gazette All-Area and received State recognition.

Middle School Girls’ Volleyball:

The Middle School “A” team also continued its winning ways with a second place league finish and a record of 6 wins and 2 losses. This is their 14th winning season in a row.

Upper School Boys’ Soccer:

While competing again in the toughest 3A league in Colorado, the varsity boys played solid, competitive soccer finishing the year with 4 wins, 9 losses and 1 tie. Still a young team dominated by sophomores and juniors, the Kodiaks look to improve again next year. Earning First Team All-Conference honors were Vin S., Louis D., and Alex M. Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Jake F. and Pete M.  

Middle School Boys’ Soccer:

The Middle School Soccer team finished the season with a 4 wins and 8 losses. The majority of the team was composed of 6th and 7th graders. The future looks bright for this young team!

Upper School Cross-Country:

The Upper School Cross-Country team, under first-year head coach, Jolly Burke, enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in many years. There were 13 girls and 4 boys out for the team this year, of which only two were seniors. Sarah W., Claire S. and Quinn A. earned All-Conference honors. Claire S. and Guoya L. qualified for the State Championships.

Middle School Cross-Country:

After the boys’ and girls’ winning the Black Forest League (BFL) races last year, the girls were again able to win the BFL league race. This is the third year in a row the girls have won League. Still a young team, the girls and boys should be even stronger next year.

Upper School Boys’ Tennis:

The boys’ “A” team, although struggling to get many wins during the season showed great improvement and excellent athleticism. The “B” team boys’ carried a winning record throughout the season and will bring a lot of ability to next year’s “A” team.

Upper School Girls’ Basketball:

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team playing a very difficult league schedule finishing the season with a 7 and 12 record. Nataya S. was selected First Team All-Conference. And Claire S. was Honorable-Mention All-Conference.

Upper School Boys’ Basketball:

With very few seniors on the team, this young team improved greatly throughout the season. They were able to qualify for the play-offs this year and will do even better next year with a year more of experience. Chris M. was selected Honorable mention All-Conference.

Middle School Girls’ Soccer:

The Middle School Girls’ Soccer team enjoyed an excellent season placing second in the newly formed league, posting a 10 win 1 loss and 1 tie record. There is a strong contingent of 6th and 7th graders who will be looking to equal or improve on the achievements of this past season. The 8th graders moving to Upper School will also be a great addition to the varsity team.

Middle School Boys’ Lacrosse:

With a very talented group of young players, the Middle School Boys’ had their best season in a number of years. Next season looks even stronger as there were only a few 8th graders on the team.

Upper School Girls’ Soccer:

The Varsity Girls’ had an incredible season with their best regular season record ever of 9 wins and 3 losses. Winning Districts and achieving their first-ever State play-off win. First Team All-Conference Honors went to Nataya S., Hannah T., Ali G., and Micaela V.  Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Ivy M. and Claire S. Nataya S. was also nominated for the All State team.

Upper School Girls’ Tennis:

The varsity girls put together an incredible season finishing as Co-League Champions, District Tournament Champions, and Regional Tournament Champions, earning a berth in the State Championships. They finished the regular season with an 18 and 1 record and with an overall record of 23 wins and 4 losses. Selected First Team All-Conference were Maddee M., Maddy M. and Kendra B. Honorable Mention honors went to Jessica E. and Kristin M.

Middle School Girls’ Volleyball:
The Middle School “A” team also continued its winning ways as Co-League Champions with a 5 and 1 record in League. This is their 13th winning season in a row as they finished with a 7 and 4 overall record.

Upper School Boys’ Soccer:
While competing again in the toughest 3A league in Colorado, the varsity boys played solid, competitive soccer finishing the year with 5 wins, 9 losses and 1 tie. Still a young team dominated by sophomores and juniors, the Kodiaks look to improve again next year. Earning First Team All-Conference honors were Tristen B., Hunter G. and Alex M. Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Vin S. and Pete M. Hunter G. was also selected Honorable-Mention All-State.

Middle School Boys’ Soccer:
The Middle School Soccer team did not finished the season with a 2 win 9 loss and 1 tie record. The team was very young with only three 8th graders, three 7th graders and seven 6th graders. With the 6th graders getting plenty of playing time, the team looks to improve the next two years.

Upper School Cross-Country:
The Upper School Cross-Country, under first year head coach, Cullan Hemenway, enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in many years. Successful in that there were 11 runners out for the team, giving CSS a full varsity squad for both boys and girls. Successful in that both Sarah W. and Claire S. earned All-Conference honors. And they were successful in terms of personal records.

Middle School Cross-Country:
After the girls won the season ending Black Forest League race last year the Team followed this up this year with both the boys and girls winning the season ending championship. With only one 8th grader on the entire team, much will be expected next season. 7th grader Nolan J. went undefeated for the season.

Upper School Boys’ Golf:
The golf team was led by senior Davis C. this year. Davis qualified for State for the second year in a row shooting his season best round at Regionals in order to qualify for State.

Upper School Boys’ Tennis:
This young and mostly inexperienced team showed excellent improvement throughout the year. The highlight of the season was the 4th place finish at #1 Doubles of Harjap T. and Chris M. at the Regional tournament.

Middle School Girls’ Basketball:
The Middle School girls’ basketball team enjoyed an incredible season finishing as Co-League Champions and then taking second place in the season ending BFL tourney. Their overall record was 18 wins and 4 losses. A great group of 8th grade girls move on to the Upper School.

Middle School Boys’ Basketball:

Kendra B. was selected First Team All-Conference. Nataya S. and Claire S. were Honorable-Mention All-Conference. Kendra B. was also First Team Gazette All-Area.

The Middle School girls’ soccer team enjoyed an excellent season posting a 9 win and 2 loss record. There was a strong group of 8th graders , along with some very talented young players. The 8th graders should be an excellent addition to next year’s Upper School girls’ team.

Middle School Boys’ Lacrosse:

First Team All-Conference Honors went to Kendra B., Guoya L.., Nataya S., and Claire S. Honorable Mention Honors were awarded to Laney B., and Jessica E.

Nataya S. was also nominated for the All State team and received Gazette All- Area recognition.

Upper School Girls’ Tennis:
This year’s team was very young with no seniors on the squad. With the entire team coming back and influx of new players, the team should show great improvement next season.
