Carnival (September)

Committee Members: Melissa Hoefler (Logistics), Ilise Garvin (Booths), Donna Taylor and Beth Toth (Token Room), Matt Dagostino (Prizes), LOOKING FOR 8th Grade Parent (8th Grade BBQ), Linda Jackson and Patty Burke (Bake Sale)

This not to be missed CSS community event involves hundreds of parent, student and faculty volunteers who set up, tear down, run booths, supervise older students running booths, work as token counters, distribute prizes, cook and serve in the food booth, provide fabulous baked goods and more. The CSSPA underwrites the cost of the carnival and all funds raised by class booths are given to school divisions to be spent on class needs. Carnival provides an opportunity for the entire CSS Community to enjoy a fun afternoon while socializing and raising money for classes. Funds distributed to divisions are used to offset the cost of classroom consumables and other needs (CS); Parties with Music and Walkabout (MS) and winter carnival, Prom, senior gift and clubs (US).

Fun Run (September)

Committee Members: Rebecca Yarros (Sponsorships) and Bronwyn Holman (T-shirts)

Don’t be left out, show your school spirit and order your student(s), and everyone in your family, this year’s cool t-shirt. Volunteers on this committee help arrange the student t-shirt design contest, order and distribute tees, seek advertising and sponsorships, obtain prizes, register runners, set the run. course and cheer on the young runners during the race. Another not to be missed event, the Fun Run kicks off Carnival and is a major Parents Association fundraiser.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation (October & February)

Committee Member: Abby Ortega and Melissa Hoefler

The committee plans and hosts appreciation luncheons for faculty and staff members during fall and spring parent/teacher conferences. Volunteers help set up, decorate, serve beverages bus tables and clean up. Homemade desserts provided by volunteers are a main highlight of both luncheons. If baking is your thing (or you know of a great bakery) or you can create a beautiful fruit tray, check out this committee!

Garage Sale (Spring 2019)

Committee Members: Donna Taylor and Open Positions

The Parents Association hosts a spring community garage sale in the Field House. CSS families donate items such as, clothes, home goods, dishes, furniture, sporting equipment, and outdoor gear. These items are then sorted and displayed by the Parents Association and sold during a massive garage sale. The event is typically held every other year to encourage quality and sellable items.

Parent Mixers (September – October)

Committee Member: Margot Gray

One of our school’s most important “friend raising” venues, formerly known as potluck dinners give CS, MS and US parents the opportunity to meet, welcome, and/or reconnect with parents of the other children in their child’s class. Parent volunteers host a mixer (ie. dinner, brunch, dessert bar, etc.) in their home for parents in the class. The potluck usually lasts around 2 hours. The PAB will help with date selection, class lists, invitation preparation and provide guidance. The meal can be formal, casual, structured or not. Some hosts select a theme and everyone brings a related dish. Other hosts have a heavy appetizer or dessert evening with everyone bringing their favorite. Sometimes two or more families work together to plan and host the mixer. One group of parents even went bowling the other year! There have even been hosts providing the entire meal. Regardless of the menu, the purpose is to provide a venue where the goal is for parents to meet and get to know one another. If connecting with other parents in your child’s class is important to you, please consider hosting a mixer. Contact the committee chair to volunteer and if you’d like to have the potluck at a venue outside your home, please coordinate with the Parent Mixer chair. On occassion, a class has included children or coordinated group childcare. It really depends on the group dynamics of the class and the personal entertaining style of the host.
