At CSS, we utilize developmentally-appropriate technology to deepen student engagement and create a deeper connection with content. A dedicated staff member works to train and excite faculty to advance lessons through 21st-century learning tools. Additionally, you will find students working with programming kits, Lego Mindstorm Robotics, Modular Robotics Cubelets, and a Multimedia Room with a video recording and editing studio. The school also utilizes an iPad lab, a Dell computer laptop lab, and a wide-variety of programs for students to explore new ways of showcasing their work. The Upper School is beginning a Bring Your Own Device initiative in the 2015-2016 school year.
By cultivating relationships with alumni, higher education, corporations, medical professionals, the space industry, and local entrepreneurs, CSS students regularly interact with STEM professionals and real-world problem solvers. At CSS we move beyond STEM education of science, technology, engineering and mathematics as fundamental building blocks and adopt the STEaM mentality, which includes the Arts, as we fully embrace art and design principals as well.
In teaching 21st-century learners and digital natives, the school is also assessing how a traditional library represents a progressive hub of dynamic learning and not only a repository of books. The Media Integration Specialist is working closely with the Tech Team and faculty to be on the forefront of this educational trend.
