Storytelling Through Film ECS | Learning to Edit Video

Today all of the students started off the day with a brief introduction to editing. We all got the chance to dive a bit deeper into this process through the guidance of Oanh Le. Storytelling Through Film ECS | Indian food and Bourbon Street

On day three of ECS, students spent the morning with Coach Vaughan talking about what it means to really “listen” while interviewing someone. Coach Vaughan talked about how we can tell if someone is listening to us speaking through body language. She also shared a list of quotes about listening. Storytelling Through Film ECS | Exploring Documentary Filmed with Smartphones and Gimbals

   On Tuesday, students again spent the morning with Taylor Nygaard, a film professor at the University of Denver, studying different types of documentaries and different techniques to use while filming, notably space, lighting, shot selection.   The first technique was the use of space. Storytelling Through Film ECS | Getting Started!

After the two-hour delay on Monday, it was imperative that we jump right into the process of filmmaking. Day one consisted of soaking up all the information we could about filmmaking and the different roles involved, such as producer, director, etc. With a guest teacher, Dr. Taylor Nygaard, we were able to explore the different modes of documentary film; for example, the expository and poetic modes.
